Wake on lan at night keeps machines switched on

0
0

Hi, recently I am experiencing a strange behaviour on a lot of our machines. In the past machines that worked through a task at night (e.g. Patchscan), booted up via WoL and turned off after the task completed. At the moment many machines just stay switched on even when the job ran successfully.

Any ideas on this one?

Johann

Troubleshooting WOL

I'm currently running 9.5 SP1 and having trouble getting LANDesk to wake up computers.  Its worked fine in the past and stopped working before I upgraded to SP1. The only other change that has been made since was that I got a different computer.  My computer uses the same name and IP, only difference is hardware/MAC address.  I've downloaded a wake on lan utility for testing called Fusion WOL and I'm able to successfully wake up a computer from my computer.  Using Wireshark I've watched my computer talk to the LANDesk core while telling LANDesk to WOL the same computer.  My computer doesn't send out a magic packet of any sorts.  I'm out of ideas as of where to look next for where the problem might lie.

~Thanks,

How can I merge multiple device entries?

0
0

Hi all,

I am learning to use LANDesk Management Console to manage my inventory and I have used data translation services to create a barcode web form to input custom data (e.g., serial number, asset tag, assigned user name) into inventory. The problem I am having is that when I view my database of devices, certain records have merged (i.e., records of devices on the network that are scanned into the database automatically have merged with the records of devices that are manually inputted through the barcode web form) while others have not.

So my question is, how can I merge my records based on matching serial numbers?

Thanks,

Stephen

Device group changes

Is there any way to record dates and times when a computer is moved from one device group to another ?

We have several device groups set up, with associated tasks (production, testing etc)

If a computer is a member of the testing group it runs the testing task, and the same for the production group.

Recently we have had some of the computers moved from one group to the other which has affected the testing results.

We would like to find out when this is happening, and if possible who is doing this.

I have checked the LANDesk logs but cannot see anything on the server.

Is there any record of group changes within LANDesk ?

Any help and guidance would be appreciated.

One computer consistently "failed to download all additional files for a package"

And it is just one computer. It doesn't not matter what package I try to push to it. I get this same error every time.

Have tried running uninstallwinclient and reinstalling the agent. Still same result.

Any other ideas?

9.5 sp1 upgrade

Anyone else had the problem with upgrading to sp1 and getting errors

CommonCore.inf: (0xFFFFFFFD) prov_loaddb.exe -f enuActionsAndSections.xml,60000

CommonCore.inf: (0xFFFFFFFF) Prov_InstallPlugin.exe -a,60000

If you run the two independent setup files I can get the process to complete but with errors.

Can you install on Server Core?

Hello

Just was curious if anyone knew if we can install an agent on 2012 server core? Or does it have to be enterprise/standard only?

I took a class for software licensing monitoring and manage software list but did not have time to use it until now. Now I do not remember the difference between the two. Can someone refresh my memory?

Two Questions

Hello

I have two seperate questions pertaining to two different fields.

1. During our review of a error tracking software we discovered an error

Source: Diagnosis-PCW

Event ID: 16

Counter 0 of instance ({89e3df89-7a62-4d88-a544-1ef252e75124}, 9348_DefaultAppPoll, 0) could not be modified. Error: "The parameter is incorrect."

Is this something to  be concerned of or is this just some logging information?

2. While we are doing our CommVaults we notice that pds.exe fails to back up. During our research this file is linked to LANDesk. We found the file to be referenced in the registry "windows/system32/cba/pds.exe" but when we try to navigate to that location the folder doesnt exist. Is this a registry file we can just delete or do we just set a rule o ignore trying to back this file up?

Impact on LDMS of upgrading to Trusted SSL Certificates?

Hi,

I hope someone can help me please?

We have a LanDesk implmentation which is happily ticking along. We have recently undergone a security audit which high-lighted the fact that the IIS server used by LanDesk is running self signed SSL certificate. The recommended action is to use trusted SSL Certificates.

I'm afraid I don't have any experience with LanDesk. Can anybody offer any adivce on the impact of replacing the SSL certificate on the IIS Server please? Will LanDesk grind to a halt? I have read that LanDesk Core has an SSL certificate in C:\Program Files\LANDesk\Shared Files\Keys . This was not flagged as an issue. Therefore would it be ok/possible to have different SSL Certificates in the ISS server and the Core application?

Thanks very much.

LDMS 9.5 - Console/Agent Discovery Slow after upgrade from 9.0SP3

Upgraded from LDMS 9.0SP3 to 9.5 wednesday night. The upgrade went pretty smoothly.

After the upgrade, it seems the console has been very sluggish. The most obvious performance decrease seems to be the amount of time it takes the console to discover agent status. By "Agent Status" I mean when you click on a computer object, to amount of time it takes the console to update the icon and right click options for that computer has increased greatly. This used to take ~1 second for both the CBA and RC icons to show on the computer. Now it can take up to 15 seconds. This problem is much worse when you are used to selecting multiple computers at once to check status. See Screenshot below of the Icons I am refering to.

Our environment:

SQL: Server 2008 R2, SQL 2008 R2. 16GB MEM, 32 CPU Cores (Physical)

CORE: Server 2008 R2, 8GB MEM, 8 CPU Cores (Virtual)

Console/Citrix: Server 2008 R2, 8GB MEM, 4 CPU Cores (Virtual)

We have all 3 9.5 Patches installed, and are using the Data Analytics Module.

Help with Agent not Communicating

9.5 No SP1

I have a computer that I insytalled Lanndesk agent on and it showed up in the console.

Now several days later it is completely gone.

I do a unmanaged Discovery and it finds it. I schedule a agent install and it fails. I can right click on it in the scheduled task, click inspect and see the processes and services and all landesk stuff is running.

I can do a \\computername\C$ and see that landesk is in the program files. I can do a http://computername:9595 and get the Landesk agent page.

This computer is in a critical mission use and I can't desktop remote it except during hours I am not working.

Any suggestions?

Landesk Client Reboot Loop

We are running LDM 9.5 (no SP1 yet) for quite some time now.

But now we have an issue with a new client.

The Landesk Client finds 21 Patches and tries to install them, but the System generate an error message saying "the needed action can not be performed" (translated from german) and request a restart.

Screen1.jpg

We restarted the, but after the restart the same error reoccured.

So here is the history of our restart attempt:

We already tried the following:

- Cleaned the history in the Landesk Server

- Uninstalled and reinstalled the landesk client

- Patched one patch manually

So we need new idea on what else we can try.

MAC agent installation problem

0

I am currently testing LANdesk as a possible solution to our needs.  I am having a weird problem installing the agent on Macs.  The Mac has the firewall turned off, remote login is enabled, I even turned off AV.  I added the Local Administrator account of the Mac to the Alternate Credential.  I get a 1026 error whenever I pushed the agent to the Mac.  For giggles, I created another local admin account called MACadmin. I added this MACadmin account to the alternate Credential, took out the Local Administrator account, pushed the agent, and now it works.  If I add the Local Administrator account on top of the MACadmin account, it fails.  If the MACadmin account is on top of the Local Administrator account, it works.

I know it could be a permission issue, I just could not figure it out.

Management Suite Certificate Naming

It's been a while since I've installed 9.0, but I recall something about naming a cert. In 9.5 I don't see an option like that during the install, and all my certificates are named LANDESK_. Where do I go to name the certificates?

Computer Naming During Provisioning

Well finally got my imaging working with the assistance of people on this forum.

Now I have another issue.

We will be using LDMS to upgrade our estate from XP to Windows 7.  We will need to keep the PC name during this process.

So in my testing I have imaged a PC, named it and joined it to our domain.

LDMS shows the correct name i the console and in the database.

To test out my template I have run a job against this PC and during CTOS ticked the box that states it will use the name in hte database if it exists.

However when it builds teh PC it STILL gives it a random name!  Why is this?

Have I missed a step somewhere?

Any help appreciated.

Tons of Event 16 events on LD Core Server

0

Hello.

Our LANDesk Core server runs on WS2008 R2. We are seeing tons of Event ID 16 events in our Event logs. In Event Viewer, this event is located in Application and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnosis-PCW.

We get about 50 of these in a row at one time, and the message is in this format:

Counter [Number] of instance ({GUID}, Number_IIS App Pool Name, 0) could not be modified. Error: "The parameter is incorrect."

We seem to get about 50 of these in a row, maybe 5-6 times a day, for different application pools. They are usually related to the application pools for LANDesk. I understand that this is for debugging/diagnosis purposes, but is it normal to get so many of these in a day? It seems to be way too much.

Can anyone provide some insight on this? If it is normal to see this many, I will just disable logging because this is useless data to us.

Thank you!

Cory
